Well, it seems like our team of adventures is now having to find a way to save the leader of their home. Oh, and an underground fight breaks out as well, with the inclusion of zombie skeletons.
Writer Jody Houser, Artist Noah Hayes, Colorist Diana Sousa, and Letterer Joamette Gil have crafted a fun issue with many twists and turns.
The issue starts with the team in a wizard’s tower was not something I expected to see. But it was a nice surprise to open the issue with. And then to see them talking to Allura Vysoren, another member of the Tal’Dorei Council is good. But it does make you wonder what could be afoot.
After the conversation, Allura and Keyleth decide to use the Scrying spell. And they see what is happening with Sovereign Uriel, the leather of Tal’Dorei. And it’s bad. A demonic power/entity of some sort is puppetting both him and his family.
It’s decided to return to Clasp HQ. And do a full-force attack against them. Well, they don’t get a sneak attack, but a fight does break out. And this is a classic fight you would see Vox Machina get themselves into. But it also ends up being crazy as well.
We then see the team taking on a small but mighty army of magical zombie skeletons. And they are not exactly easy to fight. The person at the center of this gets his head chopped off. And it’s a beautiful single-page moment.
Following that, the team looks around and finds a few things of interest. While trying to escape, the team runs into a few folks. After a much useful diversion from Scanlan as his alter-ego, “Burt Reynolds, Inspector Of Illicit Goods,” they are able to leave Clasp HQ.
Once back at Allura’s tower, it’s not good. Someone managed to get in there and take Allura. And the issue ends with Grog touching something he shouldn’t be, and the gravity in the room acting up.
Final Score: 10
Dark Horse is continuing it’s dominance with the comics it’s releasing. And Critical Role Vox Machina Origins is another example of taking a well-known IP. And making a very good and interesting comic that both fans and non-fans alike will enjoy.
