The Conquest 2099 Story Runs Deep

Conquest 2099 continues to be an action packed adventure in the world of Marvel’s 2099 universe. Steve Orlando has done a fantastic job of bringing back characters old and making characters new in this world, throwing them into a rich and deep world with so many working parts in conjunction with one another.

Dracula’s arc has been well crafted from the beginning, showcasing him as the unstoppable force he is. With the introduction of the Araneons, we get a comparable foil the vampire forces. We knew they were tough, but when Dracula and his army arrive at Araneo to free their people, they run into warriors like Web-Weaver who can hold their own.

The Threat of the Araneons Revealed in Issue #1

World Building is Paramount in Conquest 2099

The best part of this issues was the way Orlando fleshes out the Araneon history and culture. As a member of the race, Spider-Woman is a great way to explain more of the Araneon background. It also rings her into conflict with Nova, who seeks retribution against the Araneons. Everything introduced by Orlando works in conjunction to to tell a story full of stakes and ambiguity. Everyone has a reason for what they do and all of them have a point.

The Artwork Builds The Foundations of Conquest 2099

The art team of Roberson, Luis, Junior, and Dalhouse bring this universe to life with precision in every issue! In this issue we get to see the home world of the Araneons, Araneo. It’s this bright, glowing planet on the outside, but upon closer inspection it’s grey, cold, and desolate. Everything is crudely made and sharp with edges. Everything is done to showcase what a dangerous place it is. No one survives there but the Araneons. The colors in this issue vibrate with bright hues. Even Araneo is rich with blues and purples contrasting against the grey structures and landscapes.

Everything Points to 9.3/10

I’ve loved every moment of this new story set in the 2099 world. Issue 2 takes on a tour of Araneo and the aftermath of Domus Draconum. Every panel highlights the brutality of the Araneons, the passion of the Vampires, and the tenacity of the heroes of Earth. The conflict between Nova, the X-Men, Spider-Man, and Spider-Woman make their end of the story hum with a purpose. To see the action between the Vampires and the Araneons was also quite a treat. This will be a battle that will take us on a roller coaster ride of excitement and I can’t wait for more!
