HOW GOOD HAS THE PENGUIN BEEN?! “The Batman” spin-off has been fantastic thus far but this episode! It is easily my favorite episode of a T.V. series this year.
Picking up from last week, it shows the end of Oz (Colin Farrell)? He is being held up by the Maronis. Victor (Rhenzy Feliz) gets him out by ramming the car into the bodyguards. It’s then revealed to Sofia, that Oz indeed, killed Alberto. We see from Sofia’s perspective (Cristin Milioti) that she gets away and is calling for help. Later on, we get to see where Sofia ended up at. This episode strictly follows Sophia.
It show’s Oz’s relationship with Sofia back when he was her driver. Sofia was a soft-spoken person who advocated for women, after her mother’s death. It shows a young Sofia (Ana Madelyn Trapasso), finding her mother, hanging. Carmine Falcone (Mark Strong) shields her away from seeing her mother. Carmine also informs Sofia that since Alberto ( Michael Zegen) doesn’t take things seriously, he wants her to take over once he dies. Sofia is honored, but tells Carmine that the family might not approve of that. Carmine says the family will do what he says.
Sofia questions Alberto later on about what exactly their dad does. Alberto says that they “live a good life” and simply leaves it at that. Sofia wants to know more. This comes after a conversation with a lady from the Gazette. Summer Gleason is trying to find a link to women who were found dead by hanging. Sofia finally understands that Carmine might have had a hand in the women being killed, and her own mother. Sofia tries to question Carmine, but it backfires. They end up stopping Oz from driving Sofia home, and then she is arrested. She is accused of killing the women, and also her mother.
Alberto shows up with the lawyer, to help Sofia. The lawyer informs Sofia that everyone has wrote letters, regarding her mental health. Sofia’s lawyer said that she would be evaluated, and then go to trial. Things change, when they say that she needs to remain in Arkham Asylum for 6 months. During these last 45 minutes, that is Sofia (Cristin Milioti) deserves that Emmy award. The episode shows the torture tactics that Sofia goes through, including that someone from Arkham beats her up. The time Sofia spent in Arkham, her therapist now Dr. Julian Rush (Theo Rossi) was underneath Dr. Trey Bloom (Tyler Bunch). They both observed and watched Sofia quickly “go insane”. The doctors subject her to a test, with one of the inmates that was bothering her. Sofia did not end up killing her. However, she does end up killing one of the inmates who she sat with at the dining hall. That Arkham Asylum patient ended up being Magpie, a villain that is a lot like Harley Quinn.
Sofia wakes up in Dr. Julian’s office, and she understands what Dr. Julian’s intentions are with her. Sofia said she does need a fresh start, and changed clothes after escaping the situation with Oz. Sofia makes it to dinner, and makes a long speech about her father, and confronts her family for coming to memorialize Alberto. Sofia explains that she spent ten years in Arkham Asylum, because of her family’s letters. Sofia’s niece, Gia (Kenzie Grey) ends up the only one leaving the table. Later on, Sofia goes and gets Gia, and Gia finally gets the cake she wants. Sofia convinces her to sleep in the greenhouse, and she does. When Sofia and Gia wake up, she asks Gia to stay and then horror unfolds. Sofia turns off the gas that she had turned on. It ultimately killed everyone in the house, except Johnny Viti (Michael Kelly). The episode ends with Sofia needing to talk to Johnny.
Cristin Milioti deserves the applause for this episode. It has been a delight to watch every week of this series. This is hands down my favorite episode of T.V. for 2024. I’m really excited to see what is next for Sofia, and also to get back to Oz.
