A lesson from the White Queen

Last we left off with Exceptional X-Men, Kate saw Emma Frost taking control of the young mutants with her mind-control powers. Kate, who didn’t want to be back in this X-Men life, couldn’t allow her to to put these back in the same situations Kate was put in when she was a young mutant. Of course, times are different now but the same in some instances like mutants being in danger from the human population. These young mutants need to learn how to control their powers and how to use them, says Emma Frost. Together they will team the young mutants how to handle their powers, grow their powers, and use their powers.

VOTE IN THIS YEARS’ CHEERSIES!

I loved seeing Emma and Kate work together for the wellbeing of these highschool mutants. Of course, their lives are in danger every day just because of who they are, but them not being able to control their powers puts out a different type of danger into the world. I have to say, the new mutants are interesting. Their powers, their personalities, I really look forward to seeing where Exceptional X-Men goes with Trista, Alex, and Thao.

The Writing

I found Exceptional X-Men #3 to be a really fun read all around. With Kate and Emma working together for the younger generation of mutants was entertaining with their clashing personalities. I think Eve L. Ewing did a great job at showing the tension between the two seasoned mutants, but still showed mutual respect to each other. I can’t wait to see where Ewing takes these two powerhouses of mutants.

The Art

The artists really captured the beauty and terror of Emma Frost’s powers throughout Exceptional X-Men #3. From her diamond skin, to her hallucinations she can make others see, it was really great to see it all showcased in such a real way. I think the artists really made you feel the X-Men energy in each panel, while making this more specific of a story for Kate Pryde and Emma Frost. Hats off to the artists!
