Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures from Daniel Jose Older and Dark Horse Comics!

This issue features the furthering tension between our heroes, the Nihil & the High Council of Eriadu. The council seems ready to give into the Nihil’s demands, but which way will things go? Let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #10 by Daniel Jose Older (writer), Toni Bruno (illustrator), Michael Atiyeh (colorist), Comicraft’s Tyler Smith & Jimmy Betancourt (letterer’s), Harvey Tolibao & Kevin Tolibao (cover art) is a very intense issue that feels like the powder keg is getting ready to explode.

There isn’t a whole ton of fighting between our heroes & the Nihil, but that doesn’t mean the issue is totally missing action. It’s a great read, that leaves me wanting more.

The issue floats between a couple of perspectives, it starts with our heroes trying to figure out what to do next to help the planet. The high council is still deliberating what to do about the Nihil, and which side they’ll fall on. It also features Sevran Tarkin dealing with the down time in her own way. The issue picks up steam by the end and features an amazing twist that honestly surprised me, but looking back I should’ve seen it coming a mile away.

The ending honestly has me excited because just when you think you’ve got things figured out, Older turns them on their head. It’s a fantastic issue that puts a fun new twist in the story that keeps it fresh and exciting. It’s gonna be great to see where this goes.

FINAL POINT: This issue feels like a bit of an interlude, and on the surface you might think it’s a filler issue but it’s not. It’s adding a new wrinkle into the story that is sure to make things even more tough for our heroes. The twist is one of the best ones I’ve read in recent memory, and it’s honestly one that I should’ve seen coming. So kudos to Daniel Jose Older for hiding it so well. I’m even more excited to see where things go from here, because things are not going to slow down and only speed up from here. And I absolutely cannot wait to see where it goes from here!

Score: 8.5 out of 10
