Hulk Annual #1 – Creative Team:

Writer: Derek Landy

Artist: Geoff Shaw

Letters: VC’S Cory Petit

Color Artist: Frank Martin

Cover Artists: Salvador Larroca and Guru eFX

PUBLISHER: MARVEL COMICS

The Hulk and Bruce Banner are at odds once again, as the green rage beast living inside the affable scientist looks to live free and alone from him docile counterpart.

But let’s add Thanos into the mix and his Mad Mission to obtain the Infinity Stones once again and you have a real hate triangle on your hands.

Then there’s also Worldmind, a telepath who has bonded with the Mind Stone and is looking to find the other stone bearers to amplify his powers.

Buckle up, it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

The Art:

The art moves, literally, across the page. From the first panel, the action is on and with Infinity Stones involved, you need the right artist to convey the magic and the kinetic energy of the battles.

Shaw does this masterfully.

Thanos îs a hard one to fully grasp, the pain, the mission, the power – but Shaw is able to do this effortlessly.

As Hulk goes head-to-head with Thanos, there is a classic middle of the issue splash that is ripe for framing, if you dare to pull these pages out of your book!

Thanos v Hulk – Nuff said!

The Writing:

The writing from Landy compliments the art very well. There’s a lot of depth in characters like Hulk and Thanos and it’s easy to focus on only the action, not their pasts and how similar the two unstoppable forces are.

But Landy gives you glimpses of their past and struggles, and that makes their battle all the most exciting.

And then there’s a curveball to close the issue that will certainly affect the rest of this series.

Overall: 9/10

I mean the Thanos-Hulk battle alone jacks this book up into a must read.

The action kicks off early and doesn’t ever stop.

We get the raging Hulk we know and love and a Thanos blood thirsty for stones.

This is a must pull!
