Zatanna Bring Down the House #3:

Have you ever had a dream or nightmare you could not wake up from? Zatanna is living in an endless day as she encounters one magical group after another and now has no answers for what happened to her or her father. Zatanna Bring Down the House #3 continues down the wild and trippy hole of magic as the more answers Zatanna gets, the more cloudy things become.

The Art:

This issue has some of the best artwork to date in this series as Zatanna is giving Alice in Wonderland a run for her money in most rabbit holes gone down. There is a terrifying blend of one-eyed rabbits that will take our breath away and a page that is absolutely stunning in every manner imaginable. Zatanna falls down a magical hole that the cover gives us a taste of, but it is absolutely stunning once we are met with the full scene. Javier is deep in his bag as the page is a flashback to a 70’s acid trip your grandpa told you about as a kid. Hassan continues his campaign for top letterer of the year as every time Javier raises the bar with the art, Hassan matches with the letters.

The Writing:

The more answers we get in this story, the more confusing it all becomes. Mariko is crafting a slow-burn story weaving many groups on an intersection path. It is a very clever story and each group we meet offer something to the story at hand.

Overall:

Now that we are three issues in, I fear for some, this story may be moving too slowly and not have enough answers. It is not going to be for everyone, and this issue may be a make or break for readers. We continue to get breathtaking art, but the story has yet to truly reveal much, leaving us waiting for something more to happen.
