What’s Up Comic Fans!? Rich is back to give you my thoughts and opinions on yet another New Comic Book Day review for the NI Bullpen. But this review is an exciting one as I’m finally dipping my toes into one of the hottest comic universes out there today, the Energon Universe!

Destro #3 written by Dan Watters, art by Andrea Milana, colors by Adriano Lucas, letters by Rus Wooton, and edited by Ben Abernathy. The book is published by Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment.

Let’s see what the chrome dome of destruction is up to.

I’ll Use Steel Wool

Destro #3 picks right up where issue #2 ended. Destro is visiting his sacred family site in Scotland, and an assassin has him in their sights. Destro is never intimidated and even lets the assassin know that it’s not going to work out in their favor. Although it looks like time may have run out for our metal headed merc.

Meanwhile, back at M.A.R.S Headquarters it is being discovered that a recent attack against M.A.R.S in Darklonia may be a little fishy. It looks like M.A.R.S enemies have an unseen ally.

We then rejoin Destro who tells us the story of how the helmet was established in the Destro bloodline. However, when we see Destro he’s very much alive and at an American military base, talking to the last person we would think of.

I Am an Entrepreneur

Destro #3 follows the Destro run thus far in being a master work in storytelling. Dan Watters is killing it with his writing for this series. Every issue builds on the story and leaves you with one cliffhanger after another. Issue 3 is no different and leaves you with the biggest cliffhanger yet.

The art in this issue is fantastic. Andrea Milana takes Dan Watters story and makes it come to life. Like everything in the Energon Universe it gives you that 1980’s vibe. The colors are also on point and big shoutouts to Adriano Lucas for that.

Final Thoughts

Destro #3 was an awesome read and as one question gets answered another presents itself. Destro is becoming one of the best parts of an already robust Energon Universe. This book gets high recommendations, and the best is still to come.

Final Grade: 9/10
