Onto the third!

Diving into Scarlet Witch #3 and we pick up in the Land of the Dead with Wanda currently being possessed by Moridun. Wanda is making her way through the Land of the Dead for passage to get back to Lotkill and stop the Griever at the End of All Things. The Griever thought she killed Wanda, but the Queen of Nevers wouldn’t have it, and gave Wanda a way to get back and fight Griever.

Wanda fights off Moridun and immediately sees her next opponent; Lore, the evil variant of Wanda. This isn’t their first fight as Lore and Wanda battled it out in Wanda’s first solo series in the 90s. But I have to say, I love that they brought Lore into this. What better way to try to escape death than to have to fight your evil self over it?

Meanwhile, in Lotkill, Pietro and Polaris are doing their best to take down the Griever, while Darcy pays a visit to a very special enemy to talk them into helping. Darcy is nothing if not coercive and is successful in obtaining the back up, proving you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

I thought this was an excellent continuation of Steve Orlando’s Scarlet Witch run! I’ll never get tired of seeing Polaris with the twins, so that’s been an absolute joy to see. It’s interesting to see so many moving parts used in order to get Wanda back to Lotkill, like the Queen of Nevers or Darcy reaching out to an old enemy for help. I prefer that over Wanda finding some magical way to get herself back by herself.

A Feast for the Eyes

The artwork has been consistency gorgeous throughout the run and the third installment is no exception. The colors contrasting the endless amount of detail makes each and every panel look like a work of art. A couple things I really loved was how Wanda looked when she was possessed momentarily by Moridun. She looked eerie, evil, and stunning. The other thing was Lore! She looked as beautiful as Wanda, but darker and even more chaotic. It was absolute perfection. Hats off to the artists of Scarlet Witch #3 because you really outdid yourselves here.

Overall, I think this was a really strong continuation from the first two installments of Scarlet Witch. I absolutely love what Steve Orlando is doing with this run and Wanda’s character. Judging by all the callbacks to different times in Wanda’s life, I say Orlando has a great grasp on who Wamda is as a character and knows how to use her.

I give this a 10 out of 10
