Finally, now to the finale of Season 2 of House Of The Dragon. Queen Rhaneyra (Emma D’Arcy) is setting up to get ready to fly all the dragons. Jace (Harry Collett) finally meets the new dragon riders, and Ulf (Tom Bennett) is incredibly rude and has no manners towards him. Hugh (Kieran Bew) tries to head Ulf off, with a warning of who Jace is.
As this episode prepares for war, there is an introduction to Ser Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall). Tyland is the final piece, to get on board the heads of the Triarchy. Tyland makes an impressive move, going as far as trading step stones for the ships needed for Team Green’s attack on Team Black. The Triarchy accept, but only on a condition that their head sailor, Lohar, will go with him. Lohar (Abigail Thorn) wants Tyland to prove himself with a fight in the mud. Tyland ends up winning the fight and Lohar prepares her crew for the war.
Over at Team Green, Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) is informed by Larys (Matthew Needham) that they need to leave Kings Landing. Aegon puts up a fight and wants to stay. Larys tells him that the only way they can survive, is that if they go. Aegon ends up leaving with Larys in a carriage far away from Kings Landing.
Corlys (Steven Toussaint) has a quick conversation with Rhaneyra, as he is gearing up his ships to sail. Corlys informs Rhaneyra of the name change of his ships to “The Queen That Never Was”. This was in reference to our beloved Rhaneys, who died earlier in the season. Corlys wants to talk to Alyn (Abubukar Salim) who ends up telling him how he felt about being fatherless. Alyn explains what his family had to do to survive. Alyn said that he will still help with the ships, but pretty much wants nothing to do with Corlys.
Daemon (Matt Smith) finally gets a chance to leave Harrenhal. Not without speaking to Alys (Gayle Rankin) and he finally sees a prophecy. Flashes of the Night King, Daenerys and the future keeps Daemon hopeful. Alys tells him that Daemon knows what to do. Rhaneyra ends up flying into to Harrenhal, and Daemon finally pledges his allegiance to Rhaneyra. His entire army will fight with her during this war.
Back with Team Green, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) is trying to forcefully get Haelena (Phia Saban) to fly her dragon in the war. Alicent (Olivia Cooke) gets in between them and Haelena expresses that she would not kill anyone with her dragon. Aemond comes back later on to plead to Haelena again, to use her dragon. Haelena asks him, “If I don’t, will you burn me like Aegon?” Haelena said she saw what happened. Aemond said that he can have her killed for saying this, but quickly realizes that he needs her to stay alive. Aemond walks off without another word.
At the end of the episode Alicent goes to visit Rhaneyra. Alicent pleads for the war to stop. Rhaneyra said that it’s too late and what would she have her do. Alicent said if she had it her way she would run away with Haelena and her child and said she would convince Team Green to surrender. Rhaneyra asks what about Aemond. Rhaneyra says that she would take the thrown and have Aemond’s head. Alicent gets emotional at that point, and so does Rhaneyra. They both do not know what the future holds for both of them.
All of the pieces are now established for the war. All of the armies are marching, ready to face off. Only now, we have to wait two years to see the next season. Overall, the season was great. I only wish we got more of a preview of the war that was to come.
I give this episode a 8/10.
