As someone who’s a huge fan of the Midnight Sons comics and loves all things dark and creepy, this is right up my alley. So far, I’m loving the Blood Hunt event where hordes of vampires attack the Marvel Universe. It’s a great crossover event where no one is safe!

The start of this wild ride

Let’s jump right into Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1 because it’s bananas. We start with seeing Blade, a vampire hunter who’s a hybrid of a human and a vampire, sitting in a diner with his old crew. Apparently, Blade called his old crew to come help him but neglected to tell them why. Since they’re loyalty knows no bounds and Blade is the one that taught them how to hunt vampires, the crew doesn’t see that they’re walking into a trap. Blade attacks all of his former friends, and now we see that something is seriously wrong with him.

Getting the band back together

A friend of Blade’s and a newer character to the Marvel Universe is at work trying to rally the Midnight Sons together to solve this problem with Blade. Tulip Hamato drops in on Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze to recruit their help in finding out what has happened to Blade to make him act like the villains he’s spent his life hunting. Tulip makes it clear if she has to kill Blade, she won’t hesitate to do it.

With Danny and Johnny on board, we see the next Midnight Sons member who will hopefully assist in taking down Blade by any means necessary, Victoria Montesi. The daughter of Chthon herself was already in the middle of her own fight to take down evil with the help of someone very experienced in all things dark magic. She accepts and promises that if Blade has become what it sounds like he’s become, the team will kill him. It seems we have our Midnight Sons team ready for whatever they’ll have to endure to find Blade.

The Art

The artwork is absolutely stunning! It’s moody, it’s edgy, and it perfectly captures the essence of a Midnight Sons comic book. The deep, ominous tones in each panel, juxtaposed with bursts of vibrant colors, elevate the tension to new heights. One standout element for me was the gorgeous depiction of Ghost Rider. From the intricately detailed leather jacket to the haunting glow of his skull and the fiery brilliance enveloping him and his bike, every aspect felt like a work of art.

The Writing

The writing is superb! The storyline grips you so tightly that by the end of the comic book, you’re left yearning for more. The character interactions are diverse yet consistently maintain the dark tone of Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1. Each character exudes their own distinct personality, shining brightly throughout this first installment. Bryan Hill’s talent is very obvious when reading Midnight Sons: Blood Hunt #1.

I give this a 10 out of 10
