Time to get into the third issue!

The third issue of X-Men 97 already! I’m loving this prelude to the X-Men 97 series on Disney+. If you’re like me, then you’re already not looking forward to not having a new episode this week, so this comic fills the gap for me! The third installment starts right where we left off; the X-Men are in the midst of fighting off the Sinister Seven. But this time Wolverine and Storm get the help of a familiar face, well, kind of. All is going well until an unknown enemy from Wolverine’s past makes themselves known.

Cut to Rogue, Gambit, Bishop, and Jubilee fighting the good fight against Siena Blaze. But is Siena Blaze too much for Rogue to handle? This scene gave us a really sweet moment between Rogue and Gambit which I have been pining for. If you’ve watched the X-Men 97 series on Disney+, then you know exactly what I’m talking about when I say it did my heart good to see it.

Now onto Jean, Scott, and Beast back at the X-Mansion stopping Hazard from destroying their home. Beast is doing his best activating the X-Mansion’s defenses while Jean shows some impressive telekinetic skills in stopping the destruction. Somehow in all of the chaos, this turns into a wholesome moment between the team members. Something I really love about this comic run is that even when situations are scary and dangerous, there’s always a shining light somewhere.

The Art

The art is exceptional as always! Salva Espin and Matt Milla do such a great job bringing the X-Men vibe to the pages of the comic book. One part of the third installment of X-Men 97 I think deserves a lot of credit is any scene that had Rogue. You can really see the struggle she was going through trying to contain the powers with the beautiful bright colors in contrast of how Rogue was drawn. Also, shout out to the cover artists, Todd Nauck and Rachelle Rosenberg! As well as the variant cover artists, Rian Gonzales, Greg Hildebrandt and Tim Hildebrandt. They all look fantastic!

The Writing

Steve Foxe knocked it out of the park yet again! I really love how each scene shows the different tone of each of the X-Men fighting their own battle with the members of the Sinister Seven. The dialogue between the team members while they are in the throes of a fight always impresses me. It shows their own personalities shining through in any kind of situation. Storm is a character I always look for in the X-Men comics because her tone is constantly strong and powerful, and Foxe nailed that.

Final Thoughts

I’m really grateful they made this prelude to the Disney+ series and gave us this extra content after it being so long since we have gotten to see our favorite mutants in action like this. X-Men 97 #3 does an excellent job of continuing the first two comics while giving us knew content to add to the story. I can’t wait for the fourth issue!

I give this a 10 out of 10
