In the latest issue of Ultimate Spider-Man #4, there is a twist no one could have seen coming.
In last month’s issue, Peter and Harry meet for the first time, both unmasked as Spider-Man and the new Goblin, they are allies … for now.
But as the two become closer, they plan a dinner out, with the wives.
Peter shows up with MJ of course and Harry shows up with … Gwen Stacy?!?!?

Awkward …
During dinner, MJ regales the table with her marketing career and how she got into that line of work.
She’s just brought on Uncle Ben and JJJ’s new media venture to help them get the word out.
There’s a little bit of tension at the table as they discuss business and world issues.
Harry isn’t quite the fan of news and media. You can say he doesn’t trust the MSM.
But Gwen might be a Spider-Man fan and talks about how this new hero’s existence shows there’s a need for a masked man flying through the NYC skyline fighting crime.
“People need heroes Peter,” Gwen says. If she only knew.
But this Gwen is nothing like we remember. Her relationship with Harry has made a mark and she’s all business, runs a billion-dollar company and more.
More Awkward …
During a ladies trip to the bathroom, Gwen asks MJ if she could make an introduction to Ben and JJJ.
She wants to see about helping them out, or so she says.
Something feels a bit off, but my Spidey sense can be wrong quite often.
Back at the table, Harry tells Peter that Gwen knows all about his crime-fighting exploits. Everything.
But Peter is more thrown at the quest Harry has of saving the world and he wants Spider-Man along for the ride.
Then it happens.
“You have great power Peter,” he says. “And with great power, comes great responsibility.”
Well, damn.
Final Thoughts – 9/10
Not as much action or humor in this issue, but man that surprise was something else.
Gwen being a high-end corporate executive with drive and a killer mentality was also something that threw me.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out, but something about her seems off and a little nefarious.
We’ll have to see what happens next!
