Jumping Into Our Sixth Issue
We start our sixth issue of Spider-Woman with a very unhinged Ripley Ryan, better known as Star. She’s searching high and low for Spider-Woman, AKA Jessica Drew.
She’s desperate to find Jessica, and doesn’t seem to mind the destruction she leaves along the way. She clearly won’t stop at nothing until she finds her target.
Meanwhile, our hero is just trying to mind her own business and be alone in her thoughts. She’s been in a pretty emotional state about her son, Gerry. Gerry had his brain taken over and was aged by the dreaded Hydra, and is now a villain called the Green Mamba.
Every parent’s worst fear, I’m afraid. So of course she needs some time to herself to think things through while Madame Web deos everything she can to locate Gerry.
So Much Happened In So Little Time
After a mishap involving a snow plow and her motorcycle, Jessica finds herself taking a ride on the train. But who’s not too far behind? You guessed it, Star.
Star catches up to the train Jessica is aboard, sparking chaos. Following a thrilling clash between Star and Spider-Woman, Star’s actions endanger the train and all its passengers. Demonstrating remorse and the remarkable extent of her abilities, Star joins forces with Jessica to rescue the train’s passengers.
Overall
The artwork was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the depiction of the climactic battle at the end, especially showcasing Star’s unique powers. The contrast between Jessica’s abilities and Star’s powers provided an engaging clash that was visually striking.
I liked how versatile Jessica’s dialogue was. It all felt true to the character that I know and love, whether it be her calmly comforting a four year old in a dangerous moment or Jessica telling off Ripley Ryan during a battle.
I’m not sure where this comic run is going but I am so excited to find out. This issue had my heart pumping with excitement!
