The Midnite Show, from Dark Horse Comics
This comic has thrown us into the world of our favorite Monster movies. Bringing in a meta element to the story, takes it to another level and allows the reader to truly imagine how they would stand up to their all time favorite monsters. However, these classic monsters have their own twists. At the end of issue 2 things weren’t looking the best for our movie going horror fans, until an all too familiar monster hunter showed up.

The Story for Issue #3
Van Helsing arrived in the knick of time in our last issue. While he is the ultimate monster hunter in this world, he’s no god. Van Helsing catches them up, and explains that he stopped Dracula from completing a ritual, and becoming the ‘God of Monsters.’ While processing all this, our present day movie fans have teamed up with Van Helsing, while simultaneously being thrown from modern day, to movie set with monsters attacking in both. This group of unlikely heroes, then realizes the ritual may have been paused, but not stopped. Dracula is still out there, and possibly becoming more powerful.
The Art
My favorite part about the art in The Midnite Show, are the kills. Anytime a monster attacks, the details and art are done beautifully with lovely colors to compliment the kill. However, it also makes me cringe and sometimes want to look away. One scene on a page can weirdly make me go, “oooh and ewww,” at the same time.

If you like classic monster movies, and meta stories, this comic should definitely be on your pull list. The monsters themselves have a twist to each of them, and while the reader is not familiar with these exact stories, our main characters are. As they attempt to flee and stop Dracula, they’re also using their own movie knowledge (much like Randy in Scream) to try and figure out how to save themselves, and possibly the day. However, will having Van Helsing on your team, and the knowledge of every monster movie they’re in, be enough? Or will everyone suddenly be at the mercy of Dracula, the God of Monsters?
