Iron Man’s First Villian
Billionaire Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, has faced a number of enemies throughout his career, due in part to his former profession as a weapons manufacturer. However, his first villainous adversary dates back to Tales of Suspense Number 39 in 1963. In this issue, Tony was forced to build his first Iron Man suit and escape the clutches of Wong Chu, a high-ranking North Vietnamese Commander.

After Wong Chu’s men found Tony wounded in the jungle, he promised to provide medical treatment in exchange for a new weapon. Tony built his first Iron Man suit and used it to defeat Wong Chu before escaping. Later, Wong Chu attempted to take out Iron Man but was ultimately beheaded by a member of the Sons of Yinsen in Iron Man 2000 Number One.
