The Story

As the mystery of the group of child thieves continues to turn Gotham upside down, Batman and Robin have no choice but to infiltrate the gang themselves. Now it’s Robin’s time to shine as he goes undercover to join the gang of kids and find out who’s pulling the strings of the heists. What the two heroes don’t know is that they’re not the only powerhouses of Gotham who are trying to get information about the gang. Catwoman has taken a special interest and has now gotten herself involved as well. With Robin undercover, he plans to bust this case wide open, but this may be much more than he anticipated.

Mark Waid continues the old-school energy of the Batman and Robin comics while giving us a new story that leaves you on the edge of your seat. I love that I have no idea where the story is going. Just when I suspect one of the classic Batman characters is the one behind it, I’m proven wrong. Batman and Robin: Dynamic Duo – Year One #2 continues the fun story between Gotham’s brightest and makes me very excited to see what’s next.

The Art

The artists really captured the spark that made the older comics so great. Chris Samnee, Mat Lopes, and Clayton Cowles bring so much of their wonderful talents to the pages of Batman and Robin: Dynamic Duo – Year One #2. Chris Samnee brings heavy and bold details to the panels, making each page look dynamic and dramatic. Mat Lopes has a beautiful vibrancy on each page that juxtaposes the black tones to perfection, which I absolutely love. Clayton Cowles handles the lettering and brings an expertly even flow of dialogue that guides the story perfectly. Together, the artists knocked this second issue out of the park!

Final Thoughts

Batman and Robin: Dynamic Duo – Year One #2 is a great continuation of the first issue that makes you more excited to figure out the mystery of the gang of child thieves. This captures the energy of the old-school Batman comics and takes you back to when you first read about Batman and Robin working together to solve a case!
