Witness Point #2 – A Small Town Full of Podcasters & Former Criminals

Witness Point recently kicked off with issue one and introduced us to a small and unique town, that has been the dumping grounds for the Witness Protection program for years. After a headless body was found, the natives got restless. A local chill sheriff introduced us to the town in issue 1. Now in issue 2, the investigation continues from the perspective of our out of town no nonsense Fed.

The Story for Witness Point #2

As this murder mystery continues, our narrator shifts this issue. Now from the perspective of the cynical Fed we get a more serious look at the creepy and odd murder in this small town. Can people truly change, if given a second chance? People have strong opinions on this, and Witness Point is putting it to the test. As the investigation continues the sheriff takes a step back, as our hotshot fed is ready for a fight. However, her confidence starts to diminish when their most recent suspect doesn’t fit any of her theories, and instead creates more questions.

The Art

I absolutely love the art for Witness Point. At times you get that old school, who dunnit feel, while still perfectly capturing the feelings of our characters through their facial expressions. With internal and external dialogue the lettering is perfect to smoothly move the story along, and never feel confusing or overwhelming. Meanwhile, the colors create a feel of oooh spooky, while still maintaining an incredibly light feel. As should be done in a small town full of criminals and circus performers.

A stand-out moment for me with the art was the introduction and history of Salvatore “the Shotgun” Ballintine. It was informative, succinct, entertaining, and a lot of fun to look at.

Finals Thoughts

While this seems like a typical small town sheriff/big fed type of case, where they both inevitably learn from each other and become better people in the end, this case it too odd to fit the tropes. Wrenches continue to get thrown into theories and cliches, making this a fun murder mystery that leaves you scratching you head and wanting more. Witness Point is turning into a story as unique and interesting as the town it takes place in.

Overall Grade: 9/10

If looking for a new and fun who dunnit, that might include circus performers and former mobsters… look no further! So far, Witness Point has been non stop entertainment and mystery, and I can’t wait for more!
