The Story:

D’Orc is naked, wet, and on the run! Now, with the help of a fortune teller, he his determined to find out where he came from. Also, if he’s naked… where is he keeping the coins he’s paying with?

The Writing:

Every time I think that Brett Bean can’t possibly top the last issue, I am proven wrong! On top of the usual fast pacing and quick dialogue, Bean added in a unique framing device by having the fortune teller recall the story and catch the reader up to speed. This issue had me laughing out loud at multiple points and kept me genuinely invested throughout. The “twist” reveal was one that I saw coming but that did not dampen it’s impact and that is a true sign of just how amazing Bean’s writing is in this issue and has been in this series overall.

The Art:

I really don’t know what else I can say about Brett Bean and Jean-François Beaulieu’s artwork that I haven’t been saying for the past four issues. This team is absolute perfection! The frenetic and cartoonish line work coupled with the vibrant colors create an art style that I cannot get enough of. This team knows how to toe the line between over-the-top violence and slapstick humor and it never feels dull or like they are playing it safe.

Overall Grade: 10/10

I’m starting to feel like a broken record, but this book is consistently my favorite book each month. Crazy action, deep lore, surprising emotional beats, and incredible art make this a once in a generation series!
