DEATHSTROKE THE TERMINATOR #1: The Killer.

Published:

Slade Wilson has always been known as the killer for hire, willing to take down anyone and anything for money. He’s on a routine mission at the direction of his partner Wintergreen, who tells him to make up with his daughter Rose when things go sideways. Now Wilson has become the target, and for the first time in his life, he must change and become the killing machine he was meant to be.

This is a review from Matt of Hops Geek News

The Story:

Matt: Tony has brought absolute heat to this debut issue of a long-storied villain. We have always known Slade to be a cold-hearted killer as he antagonizes our favorite heroes. Watching as Tony delivers an inner monologue of Deathstroke talking about how he can’t change and penning an emotional letter to his daughter did a lot to get us to sympathize with him for perhaps the first time. I loved how he has a calm demeanor about him as he turns into this unstoppable killing machine.

This issue has an intense twist as Wilson has become the target. I did not expect this to happen, and Tony, along with Wes, built this first issue up to this exact moment. They have us on his side, so when he loses everything, I found myself rooting for him and cannot wait for what’s next.

The Art and Letters:

Matt: There are some beautiful artistic sequences in this issue. There is a scene where Deathstroke is emerging from a fiery explosion that is drawn to where his outline can be seen only. On top of that, the way the colors blend and mold to his figure creates such an epic sequence. The fast-paced action panels are drawn extremely well as Wilson moves from target to target. Even wearing his mask, there are expressions coming from him, and we can feel what he is going through. The art is top-tier in this issue.

Final Thoughts:

Matt: 10/10. Deathstroke The Terminator #1 topped my expectations in every single manner. I am so ready for a run where we can unapologetically root for Deathstroke. I cannot wait to see where the team takes this if this first issue is anything to go by. Go pick this up!!

Overall Grade: 10/10!
