56 Days – A Non Spoiler Review for a NEW Mysterious & Sexy Thriller

Published:

On February 18th Amazon MGM Studios and Atomic Monster are dropping all 8 episodes of their newest series, 56 Days. Each episode more passionate and full of twists than the next. Below is a NON spoiler review. However, check back tomorrow when the series drops for my spoiler filled thoughts.

While the series is based on a novel of the same name by Catherine Ryan Howard, it does not take place in Dublin. Nor does it take place during the COVID lockdown. 56 Days, the Prime Original series, is in present day Boston. Starring Dove Cameron as Ciara Wyse, and Avan Jogia as Oliver Kennedy.

The Story for 56 Days

The first episode of 56 Days immediately gets you hooked with the most disgusting scene in a what the hell kind of moment. Only to keep you questioning everything as the episode continues. All to then throw you on your head at the end, with not only an unexpected twist, but a satisfying one.

This first episode set the tone for the whole season, as the mysteries and twists kept going. I was certain at one point I had figured out the ending. However, the predictable tropes I’ve come to expect never came to fruition. The identity of the body remains a mystery until the very end, as the story jumps back and forth from the crime scene to the past 56 days. Which are the amount of days from when our main characters meet, to when the cops discover the body.

After the what the hell moment in the first scene, we kick off the first episode with our main characters 56 days ago. Ciara and Oliver meet at a grocery store. After some heavy flirting a first date is set. While everything appears innocent at first, there is much more to their “meet cute” than it seems. However, that doesn’t become clear at all until the very end of the season.

Despite being unsure as to who each character really is, and what their intentions are, their relationship definitely does not lack passion. While you see their chemistry shift throughout the 56 days, their intimate scenes (and there are a lot), are for lack of wanting to use a better term, hot. When they’re going at it, seems to be the only time they’re on the same page. As we learn more about Ciara and Oliver, the mysteries seem to get more confusing until the end. When every T is crossed, I dotted, and body accounted for.

Shout out to Dove Cameron. As a mom to a daughter obsessed with Descendants (she even just got cast as Mal in her middle school production of Descendants this Spring), I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to see past Cameron’s iconic Disney character role of playing Maleficent’s daughter. She quickly proved me wrong.

Overall Grade: 9/10

56 days keeps the passion and the twists going strong for all 8 episodes. Every time a new secret was revealed, another presented itself until the very end. An ending which left no stone unturned. It was satisfying while still leaving me to think about how it all went down.

If you’re looking for a new story with passion, mystery, and a satisfying ending, check out 56 days on Prime Video, dropping tomorrow, February 18th at 3:00 A.M. EST. Then check back for my spoiler filled thoughts. Also dropping tomorrow.

56 Days was produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Atomic Monster. Starring Dove Cameron, Avan Jogia, Karla Souza, and Dorian Missick. Written by Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher.
