Logan: First Kiss

First Kiss takes place in Canada in the year 1919. Benjamin Percy does such a great job of writing this version of Logan who is simply trying to live a quiet life in the woods. But in typical Logan fashion, trouble always seems to find him. A team of bootleggers is smuggling alcohol from the US to Canada but are intercepted by Canadian authorities.

Logan happens upon the scene of the fight and notices what the cargo is. After hearing more bootleggers and Canadian Mounties on their way, Logan snatches the last good barrel and heads back home to enjoy in its splendor. Returning to his peaceful life… for now.

Logan: One Last Crossing

One Last Crossing is set in the 1930’s aboard a ship headed to the US. Mirka Andolfo contributes a dual threat with this issue doing both the writing and the artwork! Logan is aboard this ship as a worker trying to make his way to a new beginning. All of a sudden many crew members start to mysteriously die. Leaving some passengers to suspect that the ship is haunted by a sprit.

Logan is attacked and given an ultimatum by the captain of the ship. Not a wise move on the captain’s part, and it doesn’t end well for him or the rest of the crew. Logan makes it to the US with a select few passengers from the ship. Relieved to be in America, Logan hopes to again find peace, and live his life.

Logan: The Children of The Altered Mind

The Children of The Altered Mind takes place in the heat of a battle between Elijah and a team of American and Canadian special forces. Frank Tieri does an exceptional job with the writing of this story. We have Carol Davers teamed up with Logan going after Elijah who is trying to build a following for his cult. When things seem almost over for the two agents, Logan hits another gear and forces Elijah to flee.

The end of this issue brings you to a debriefing of the mission. Logan is interviewed in a meticulous manner causing Davers to side with the agency. No one believes Logan on his account of events from the mission. No one but Nick Fury. This issue also ends in a twist of events, and open for hopefully a continuation in issue three!

Writing

All three writers for this issue did an amazing job capturing the “beast” essence of Logan. The use of his smart responses to Logan’s famous “Bub” lines. If you were to just have the script for these three short stories (without the art) you would know for certain this was Logan. The inner dialogue of Logan’s thoughts make you feel his agony for wanting a peaceful life. Kudos to all three writers!

Artwork

The art for these three short stories is simply stunning. All done in the title colors black, white & blood (red). There is something that is so captivating when looking at art done in black and white. You get to use more of your imagination when examining the panels. Creating your own colors and textures. And the use of red for the blood and background has so much symbolism to it. A true joy to look at!

Final Thoughts

Logan: Black, White & Blood #2 is a phenomenal collection of three short stories featuring Logan. You get to experience three different time periods within Logan’s life along with three different forms of fighting. This is proving to be an amazing arc, and I am thoroughly impressed with how it is going. You do not need to be a die-hard fan of Logan to pick up this arc to know what is happening. Each story is its own and offers plenty of entertainment for the reader. Go pick up this issue and a copy of issue one today!
