DC K.O. BOSS BATTLE #1: When Worlds Collide

Published:

The final four must take on their last challenge, heroes from the Absolute Universe! However, before they can do so they must harness Omega energy from various other universes. When worlds collide against the likes of Homelander, Annabelle, Sabrina, and more they must do what it takes to be ready to face their final test.

This is a joint review by  Matt from the Hops “Geek” News podcast and  Megan from the Vigilante Vibes Podcast

The Story:

Megan: If you go into this comic thinking you know what’s going to happen, I promise you don’t. In what’s been an exciting event, DC K.O. has brought all sorts of different team ups, but what happens when the multiverse gets involved?

Bringing in battles that we’ve all only jokingly asked, DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1 brings the all to life. Superman against Homelander, Wonder Woman against Red Sonja. Even the world of Mortal Kombat being thrown into the mix! The excitement is at an all time high, and Jeremy Adams is to thank for it.

Matt: This was a clever way to tease and allow for a crossover across so many amazing titles and properties. Whether it was comics or shows, Jeremy Adams was the perfect person to put this into the hands of. Using Omega energy and needing to build up that bar felt very video game-like and extended the story while still giving the final four a test. The Superman and Homelander fight may have been the most hyped, but to me, the Annabelle and Joker crossover led to the most interesting bit in the issue.

The Art and Letters:

Megan: Oh, the artwork! If you want to see all your favorite franchises in the DC Universe, then this is the comic for you. Ronan Cliquet, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Kieran McKeown, and Pablo M. Collar are able to expertly bring in all these iconic characters and have them match the art style of the characters of the tournament. The extensive detail work leaves little to the imagination and the reader is gifted with seeing some epic battles that I could’ve read an entire run about.

Hi-Fi ensures that each page is a work of art with the vibrant colors juxtaposing the darker and heavier colors. Each page is left with excitement and the vibrancy that nails down just how fun this issue is. Tom Napolitano brings all the work together in a neat bow with his work on the letters. With so many different personalities at play, Napolitano nails each tone in each of the battles like the iconic “get over here” from the Mortal Kombat battle.

Matt: The artwork is beyond amazing in this issue! The array of colors from Hi-Fi blends beautifully across each universe that the team of artists delivers. There is so much of the essence within Annabelle that makes her creepy that stands out, and then when we get Samantha from Beneath the Trees, the sinister killer is all across her face. Jamal Campbell stands out as well on this cover, delivering a tease of what is within the issue, making this so visually stunning.

Final Thoughts:

Megan: 10/10 DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1 is a wild ride of excitement and colorful crossovers that you never thought you’d be able to see!

Matt: 10/10 DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1 brings us that classic crossover we used to dream about sitting in our rooms as kids. It’s full of action, and every universe has a moment to shine and stand out. This is a must-grab issue!

Overall Grade – 10/10

This comic book was terrible. Zero interesting fights. Not enough space (only 30 pages?) and clunky dialogue. Some nerds will just consume any product cos ‘crossovers’! Wack review.
