Published:

Chaos has broken out at the lab while Wally is trapped in the portal that has opened. Something even worse has emerged from the mysterious beyond. Can Wally make it back to save his father before it is too late?

Creative Team: Jeff Lemire (WRITER), Nick Robles (ART and COVER), Adriano Lucas (COLORS), and Tom Napolitano (LETTERS).

The Story:

There is a sense of tragedy and somberness as Wally meets Barry in this issue. Jeff captures the spirit of their relationship as Barry has always been a mentor, and even though he is in this plane of existence, the mentorship thrives in a heart-warming way. The Rogues are having their moment in battle, which, seeing their teamwork together, makes for an incredible side story. This is a Rogue team unlike anything we have seen, and they aren’t the all out evil. I do hope that Jeff takes us back into this version of the speed force and explores more from that world, as there is so much intrigue.

The Art and Letters:

Nick and Adriano have created something demonic with Eobard’s appearance. They have described him as looking Satanic in many ways; he still sports the lightning bolts on his head that come with seeing iterations of speedsters. The page where we get to explore this new land within the portal felt desolate, and yet there were subtle details in the panels that left us exploring the background. The color work of Absolute Flash is so beautiful every issue, and the final page of this issue brings an air of triumph with Wally standing tall and powerful.

Final Thoughts:

Absolute Flash #11 sees Wally coming into his own as a hero and growing his confidence, setting us up for an epic battle between him and Thawne. The artwork and letters are gorgeous, leaning into the mystery that Jeff sets up with his story. This run gets stronger with every issue.
