“The Unusual Suspect”
Sam Humphries is simply just showing off his creative storytelling skills with this New Avengers arc! Issue eight is an amazing continuation, taking you right to what happens after Bucky is shot. Turns out it wasn’t a fatal shot, just a stun. Which leads to Bucky being interrogated by Natasha.
Tables are quickly turned when Natasha willingly submits to being questioned by Bucky. Now, let’s not forget that we do have the rest of the team in this story! Carnage is being… well Carnage. He is hungry for blood, and the team is quite appetizing. Which leads to another plot twist!
Going back to Bucky questioning Natasha, he is utterly confused about the state of their “relationship.” Baffled by the answers he’s getting, Bucky is too flustered for words. Then Natasha gives him an answer that he knew but is trying so hard not to believe. Which sends the rest of this story on a crazy tornado you’ll have to read to believe!
Huge shoutout to the guys over at Paneloids: Comic Books and More! If it wasn’t for them interviewing Sam Humphries about New Avengers, I honestly wouldn’t be reading this title. Sam is such a humble guy, with a witty sarcastic-ness about him. And listening to him pitch his new, New Avengers, completely sold me! Take, my word for it and go get this issue and the rest of the arc! Such a good run!
Artwork
The art for this book is spot on! Lines and shading are perfect with nothing missing. During the interviewing panels between Bucky and Natasha, you can see and feel the emotional landslide that is taking over both characters. The attention to details is so far out of the park that a “homerun” doesn’t give it justice.
Final Thoughts
Such a jaw dropping issue for this amazing new arc! You have amazing art, mixed in with outstanding storytelling! Sam Humphries now has a new fan, in me… Join me in picking up this new issue of New Avengers #8!
