The Opposition’s mission is not over on Ultimate Wolverine #13 by Chris Condon, Domenico Carbone, Bryan Valenza & Cory Petit from Marvel Comics.

END OF THE RASPUTIN ERA
Previously, the Eurasian Republic was under the control of the Rasputins. They were Piotr Rasputin, Illyana Rasputin and Arkady Rossovich. Or better known as Colossus, Magik and Omega Red. They were ruthless dictators who treated their country and its people like cannon fodder. Recently, they were taken out by a group of mutants called The Opposition. From the beginning the Opposition knew their chances were slim. But they never gave up hope. In the end, they accomplished what they set out to do. Even though most of them did not survive.

*SPOILERS FOR ISSUE #13*

SOLICITATION:
“INTO THE MAKER’S WAR! Wolverine hunts down the Maker’s Council… and with the Maker himself on the horizon, it’s time to exact revenge on the ones who turned his life into a living nightmare! Wolverine’s journey through the ENDGAME starts here!” – From Marvel Comics.
CHAOS IN THE STREETS
The coup is over. The Rasputins are no longer the figureheads in power of the Eurasian Republic. But the hard times are not over yet. Without any sort of leadership, the country is falling into chaos. The people of Eurasia have taken to the streets to protest, manifest, and demonstrate their descent for the Eurasian government. What are the people’s demands? The return of the missing citizens abducted by the government. The Rasputins had sanctioned program called Directorate X. Which sole purpose was to experiment on the mutant citizens of the Eurasian Republic.
NO ONE IS COMING HOME

Due to the sudden fall of the Rasputins, the missing citizens could not return to their homes or loved ones. The only person alive who can help this situation, is the former Head of State Illiana Rasputin. Also known as Magik. Who is the only survivor from the recent coupe and retreated to the realm of limbo.
TRAUMA IS A BEAR
Meanwhile, Logan retreated underground with Sentinel One and Jean Gray. Wolverine has little interest in leading a revolution. Or becoming a head of state. Nor being part of whatever government is going to take shape after the chaos. Moreover, Wolverine states that he never had any sort of ambition for power in any way, shape, or form. Unlike Mikhail Ursus. Also known as Ursa, another mutant from the Eurasian Republic. Who, unfortunately, was also a victim of the Directorate X program. Although they were on the receiving end of the torture and experiments, they were never friends. This is explicitly demonstrated in issue #13.
HOW ABOUT THE ART?
Ultimate Wolverine’s sinister look and tone have gone nowhere. Even though, we have a new penciler in Domenico Carbone, the grit and violence of this series that separated it from the rest of the Ultimate line is still prevalent. This is because in part, to the coloring of Bryan Valenza, who’s been a mainstay in the series. The artists have always gone out of their way to depict the Eurasian Republic as somber and hopeless, and this issue is no different.
OVERALL GRADE: 8.5 OF 10
FINAL THOUGHTS
Chris Condon had an amazing conclusion to the previous arc. By telling a tragic story involving the citizens, government and the rebellion inside the Republic. Now, in this next arc, not only is he telling the story of the aftermath of a fallen government. But also, the story of those who survived the fall of an entire country and walked away for their individual reasons. According to solicitations, the final arc of the series will be tied into the Endgame story. Which is supposed to see us through the conclusion of this Universe. I am excited to see what role the remaining characters from this series will play in that story.
