RECAP OF ISSUE 3

Since we did not cover issue #3, here’s a quick recap of what happened. Previously, Melody realized her precarious situation. Let’s call it time traveling backwards, for a lack of a better word. At one point, Melody reached old age. Unfortunately, she also developed dementia in the twilight of her life. For some reason or another, Melody started time traveling backwards in her own life. But as she traveled backwards in her own life memories, she brough that dementia with her. Hence why she seemed lost and startled in the first two issues. Melody was spectating the memories of her own life as a stranger.

GATHERING HER BEARINGS

Finally, Melody puts things together. She recognized the moments and memories she was traveling in time as her own. However, she still did not know who she was exactly. Through these memories, Melody saw how disturbing and tragic her life had been. But the most problematic moments of her life were later as an adult. What exactly happened that led her to those terrifying moments in her adulthood? Unfortunately, Melody can’t stop herself from traveling further back in time. To yet another past memory.

FROM SOLICITATION:

“The genre-defying new saga rockets towards its conclusion! Melody’s greatest fears are realized as time finally runs out! Reality slips away, casting her into a surreal realm of dazzling and terrifying visions. Can she navigate the chaos and finally uncover the secrets she’s been chasing?” – from BOOM! Studios.

PERENNIAL HARBOR:

If time traveling backwards in your own memories was not enough of a mystery to solve for the readers. There is also the mystery of the religious zealot cult of Perennial Harbor. Since the very beginning of this series Perennial Harbor, the small, isolated town where the story is taking place has been treated as a character by itself. From the infrastructure of the town to the people participating in mass. All the way to the time creatures that seemed to come from a Van Gogh Painting. Everything about Perennial Harbor screams enigma.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

First thing that comes to mind about this issue is the incredible two-page spreads. Which stretched the imagination of what storytelling can be in the medium of comic books. Time travel can be particularly tedious to depict or interpret. Even in a visual medium, like comic books. I will go as far as to say, that Keith Browning the artist far exceeded all expectations interpreting what this story looks like through his craft.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

FINAL THOUGHTS

If for some reason it is hard to understand, or I am not making myself clear in this review, I apologize. But I assure you, this is one of those things you will have to experience yourself to fully grasp all the concepts and the themes and the art in this comic book series. The tension, the dread, the mystery you cannot help it, but be captivated by all of it.
