The Story
In the last issue of Titans, we saw the Titans evacuate the world while Cyborg prepares for his turn in the tournament. In Titans #30, the Titans members are finishing up the evacuation, and it’s time for Cyborg to battle against his longtime friend, Swamp Thing.
Both fighters know what’s at stake, and they know one won’t make it to the next round. With both character’s hearts in the right place about winning, they battle it out as they’re supposed to. First round easily went to Cyborg, who may have let his pride get the better of him in the next round. The second round quickly went to Swamp Thing, who chose a form more prepared to handle the weight of Cyborg and his powers. It all comes down to the third round.

While Cyborg is fighting for his life, Superman, Donna Troy, and Arsenal are finishing the evacuation and looking for stragglers. Unexpectedly, Superman was met with the help of Lian, Arsenal’s daughter. To Arsenal’s contempt, he didn’t want his daughter anywhere near this danger, but she’s strong headed and wasn’t taking “no” for an answer. To avoid her being in harm’s way, Arsenal volunteers himself and Donna to go check out a distress signal. Little do they know it’s all apart of a bigger plan.
The Writing
John Layman brings an exciting look into the thrilling tournament that now involves Cyborg. Having to fight an opponent, Cyborg goes against Swamp Thing in a battle royale to the death. Knowing what’s at stake, both fightings give it their all, while giving the reader a gripping fight of these two powerhouses.
In Titans #30, there’s a drastic change in energy between the stories of the tournament and the Titans finishing the evacuation. Layman does a fantastic job with the switching back and forth between the tones of each story, making the changes flow perfectly throughout the comic.
The Art
The artists of Titans #30 did a fantastic job bringing the story to life, and hammering down just how exciting it is. The battle between Swamp Thing and Cyborg was beautifully illustrated, bringing in all the emotion of the characters as well as the tension coming from the need to win. The colors were perfectly handled, practically making the characters pop off the pages. The lettering was stupendous, harnessing the emotion of the situations and reiterating them excellently from the characters. All this is thanks to the creative team, Pete Woods, Bruno Abdias, and Wes Abbott.
Final Thoughts
Titans #30 continues the thrilling event of DC K.O. with Cyborg and Swamp Thing, bringing a fight you won’t want to miss.
