ABSOLUTE FLASH #10: The Melting Point.

Published:

Wally and the Rogues are in a race against time as things hit a melting point with the arrival of Mick Rory! Thawne will stop at nothing to capture Wally and fulfill her grandfather’s plan but, what if everything is not as it seems?

Creative Team: Jeff Lemire (WRITER), Nick Robles (ART and COVER), Adriano Lucas (COLORS), and Tom Napolitano (LETTERS).

The Story:

Jeff continues to elevate this story as he introduces some twists into the fold. The Grodd we have been spending time with also has a father who is under Thawne’s evil control, much like Wally, which brings the two closer together as they become desperate to rescue them. Amongst the chaos, the revelation at the end of the book, as Wally gets trapped in this other dimension, has made things quite interesting. I really am enjoying this version of the Rogues as they fight with honor and aren’t the group we have always known, yet in previous runs. There are familiar elements, but Jeff is taking those and adding unique spins onto them, which keeps the reader engaged.

The Art and Letters:

Nick Robles is a wizard with the lines he manages to weave into every panel as he brings the speed force to life. Mick’s arrival has a gigantic final boss fight feeling to it as he captures the size perfectly in comparison to everyone else. Lucas adds depth through the color work in a bright array of colors. Visually, this run captures the eyes and attention and refuses to let go. Amongst the chaos, there are effects lettered and woven in the flames, keeping those fine details standing out heavily.

Final Thoughts:

Absolute Flash #10 brings twists and turns that not even Wally West can avoid. Jeff, Adriano, Nick, and Tom continue to add layers and bring excitement to this story in a flashy and clever manner.

Overall Grade: 9.7/10
