The Story

Now that the young knights are being hunted, the only safe place for them is the mystical Camelot. Upon arriving, it becomes clear that Merlin has thought of everything as the children’s families have joined them under the guise of being on a vacation. All of their families except one, as Connor’s grandmother was abducted by the same agents who came for him. The agents are still on the search for the kids, and in C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table #4, we get a better understanding as to why.

The agents are all working for one person, well, one entity, that was the reason the original Knights of the Round Table fell, now cursed and bound to the children’s weapons. We get a very good look at who this is and who he’s controlling, which makes him all the more terrifying. Now, with the stakes grow higher and higher every day, the children have to train for when the inevitable happens, they come toe to toe with the evil Mordred.

The Writing

C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table #4 continues to bring new levels of depth into the story that masterfully blends stories we grew up reading about with a new modern twist. Tom Taylor is able to capture your attention and keep it locked in until the very end, and will leave you wanting more.

Learning about the big bad of the story and seeing how unhinged they really are raises the stakes even higher when you realize this is who the children will have to battle. Along with learning about Mordred and how he’s the one who destroyed the Round Table, we also learned why the original Knights of the Round Table ended up bonded to the kids’ weapons. The regret and guilt in Merlin’s retelling of the story were loud, which added more depth to the story itself.

The Art

Daniele Di Nicuolo continues to impress with their striking drawings and stupendous action panels that are able to get your excitement at an all-time high. Along with that, Di Nicuolo can illustrate the emotions of the characters perfectly, allowing the characters’ own stories to shine through, like Connor, for example. Connor is experiencing loneliness, terror, and being withdrawn from the others because of his grandmother, who was adjusting. Di Nicuolo makes you feel every bit of his sadness through the panels, which makes his emotions hit even harder.

Alongside Di Nicuolo is Rain Beredo, who handles the coloring of the comic. Beredo is able to bring the vibrancy that complements Di Nicuolo’s drawings perfectly, with each page having the brightest of colors, making the characters practically pop off the pages.

Wes Abbott, who serves as the letterer of the comic, portrays the emotions of the story through the dialogue in a way that’s pitch-perfect. With that, Abbott creates a fantastic flow of dialogue throughout the comic that comes with fantastic pacing.

Final Thoughts

C.O.R.T: Children of the Round Table #4 continues the gripping story of the young knights in Camelot, adding more and more excitement with every issue.
