Fight month continues as we have a classic clash of the gods as Aquaman takes on Hawkman with a trip to round two on the line! Will Arthur’s new abilities help him, or will he be a fish out of water?

The Story:
Jeremy Adams is a gem, bringing so much life and respect to Arthur and this Aquaman run. I love that he gets a chance to play in the K.O. universe and build upon Arthur’s mythos even more because of it. Hawkman severely underestimates Arthur and becomes too full of himself, which leads to his downfall. I love how Jeremy writes Arthur to be confident in himself and his new abilities in this issue, and how the fight ultimately wasn’t even close.
The Art and Letters:
This issue is full of big moments that land full of heavy blows and make this fight feel truly powerful. John puts the battle between these two gods on full display, artistically weaving destruction throughout the background of each panel and detailing the ferocity on their faces as they come to blows. There are splash pages that stand out grandly, showcasing how powerful each of these two is, but, more importantly, Arthur. Rex brings out the details with his colors as Arthur’s powers explode from the panels in bright blues and golds. Arthur feels truly powerful in an almost terrifying manner. Amongst the chaos, Dave manages to bring a sense of calmness to Artur through the lettering, and it shows his calmness and ties this issue together powerfully.
Final Thoughts:
Aquaman #12 puts Arthur at the top as a clear frontrunner to win this tournament and delivers an air of confidence and power we haven’t seen before in an Aquaman story. This fight is brutal as Rex, John, and Dave show the ferocity of the tournament, while Jeremy excellently showcases this new version of Arthur. IF this issue doesn’t leave your jaw on the floor, I don’t know what will.
Overall Grade: 10/10
