The Story ‘
When Gwen found out who was behind all the chaos, she knew it would be a struggle bringing her former symbiote to justice. This proves more and more true when she sees all of the havoc Tantrum has caused at the prison, since the symbiote is able to infect more than one person at a time. As difficult as it may be, Gwen has no choice since Tantrum is bonded to Fabian. To add even more difficulty to the situation, the U.S. Army has only given them 90 minutes to solve the symbiote problem, or they plan on blowing the prison up to smithereens, and that was about an hour ago.

Fortunately for Gwen, she isn’t alone in all this chaos. With Miles, Silk, and Agent Anti-Venom by her side, surely the Spider-Heroes can solve the problem before time is up. Once they’re in prison, they realize exactly how big the problem is. There’s a feeling of doubt over the group, until Gwen comes up with a plan that’s crazy enough to work. Granted, the plan was quickly written off by Miles, Silk, and Agent Anti-Venom, but Gwen was able to control her anger to further explain the plan. This was a perfect example of what Gwen has tried to learn for so long, so to see her perfectly handle herself was very nice to see.
Now all they have to do is put the plan in action, hope it works, take down Tantrum without hurting the prisons that’s infected, all before the U.S. Army decides to blow the prison sky high.
The Writing
All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #5 was an excellent portrayal of growth for Gwen as a character. Seeing where she started, reacting out of anger and not thinking through her next move, to now being able to take a step back and think it through was perfectly paced by Stephanie Phillips. Gwen’s plan worked without a hitch, and it’s all because she made her stance known and acted as a leader, after being so hard on herself. I really look forward to seeing where Gwen’s newfound confidence takes her, especially with how the comic ended!
The Art
The artists of All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #5 perfectly captured the stress of the situation of having to solve this huge problem in such a small time frame. You can feel the high energy easily in the prison, from the team, and from Tantrum. Von Randal absolutely nails the symbiote madness, perfectly illustrating the thrilling storyline. Matt Milla lends his coloring expertise yet again and makes the characters practically pop off the page with the use of the gorgeous contrast of black and vibrant colors. Ariana Maher, the letterer of the comic, wraps all of the artwork up in a nice bow with the fantastic work on the flow of the comic through the dialogue.
Final Thoughts
Nothing makes me more happy than seeing Spider-Heroes fight alongside each other. Along with the side by side team up of Gwen, Silk, Miles, and Agent Anti-Venom, everything else about All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider #5 is all gas and no breaks!
Overall Grade – 10/10
