The Story
Tensions are higher than ever as the Amazing X-Men manage to get out of the Limbo Territory unscathed. Although the team was able to defeat Darkchild, that was still the least of their worries when it comes to the never ending battle with Revelation. With a severe lack of trust for Psylocke, the team needs to learn to come together for the sake of taking down Revelation once and for all.

In Amazing X-Men #3, we get a good look at the dynamic between the team, namely what Beast’s relationship with Animalia was like. It seems that Beast hated the plan of affecting the past life of an X-Men, so he decided if anyone’s life was going to be ruined, it should be his. So he left Animalia to be sent back to the past with Scott. It paints a light that feels so authentic to the Beast we all know, and what he was willing to give up for the greater good.
Alongside the life of Beast, we also see how tortured Psylocke is with her decision to leave Revelation as his Seraphim Captain. She battles in herself whether she made the right decision or not, and has to hold the burden of killing Revelation’s wife, Bei the Blood Moon. While Psylocke was just following orders, Bei told her a secret that would end Psylocke’s safety and put her life at risk; Revelation plans to recreate the entire world after himself.
The Writing
Jed MacKay builds up the tension perfectly, within the team and in the world of Revelation. Just in time for the finale of X-Men: Age of Revelation, MacKay shows us a bit more into the dynamics of the Amazing X-Men that we haven’t seen yet, and what they’ve lost in all this chaos. Beast and Animalia lost each other, Psylocke seems to have lost sight of who she is to her core with not knowing if she made the right decision, and Scott is losing his mind with the constant arguing. Amazing X-Men #3 is a good bit of continuation leading us into the grand finale that we are all dying to see play out.
The Art
The artwork of Amazing X-Men #3 is fantastic all the way through thanks to Mahmud Asrar, Matthew Wilson, and Clayton Cowles. Mahmud Asrar, the artist of the comic, does a phenomenal job at bringing the story to life in a way that makes you feel the tension of the team. Using a perfect amount of detailing, the comic has that classic X-Men comic energy with the emotions of this dystopian world. Matthew Wilson, the colorist, always nails it when his talents are lent for the coloring of the comic. Clayton Cowles is able to harness the differing emotions of the characters and make it clear in their words. Together, the artists came together to bring a stunning comic that’s full of depth on each page.
Final Thoughts
Amazing X-Men #3 does a fantastic job at keeping the hype up for the incoming finale with Revelation.
