UNDEADPOOL #2 – Reunited with the Past

The Story

After Deadpool contacted the X-Virus, his healing factor has sat in overdrive as his body constantly tries to repair itself, leaving him in this strange place of limbo. The X-Virus wants to change him into a full time mutant-eating zombie, while his healing factor tries to repair him. So, sometimes he’s in control of his body, the other times, when the hunger arises, he’s just a passenger in his own body.

This leads to him having no control over what his body does until his hunger is satisfied, which lead to him devouring 4/5 of the Alpha Warriors. The Alpha Warriors were a group of young mutants who made a break for it to find the X-Men and join their team, and fight against Revelation.

With Deadpool’s hunger stopping after eating four out of the five team members, the only one left was a young mutant named Fearless. Fearless is trying to get to St. Louis to the Expatriate X-Men with Deadpool’s help but it’s only a matter of time before his hunger makes an ugly appearance. Until then, they make their way through Revelation’s territories until they run into an old friend of Deadpool’s, Cable. Now the question is will Deadpool’s hunger last through his encounter with Cable, or will the two have a fight to the death?

The Writing

Tim Seeley continues the exciting story of Deadpool in the Age of Revelation, which is nothing if not tragic. Deadpool is stuck in this limbo that loses his bodily autonomy to himself, and can’t control when he loses it. What adds to the sadness is that Deadpool wants to do the right thing for Fearless but even he knows she’s in danger around him.

Undeadpool #2 really explores Deadpool still being who he is at heart, someone who wants to have fun, someone silly, someone who doesn’t take things so seriously. However, he really doesn’t have that luxury anymore. Even when he sees Cable again, it’s completely different from what it’s ever been before, and that’s a hard pill to swallow. All in all, Tim Seeley continues the excitement, the high energies, and the depth that goes into living in this new dystopian world thanks to Revelation.

The Art

The artwork of Undeadpool #2 is as exciting as the story itself. With Cable malfunctioning in a few different ways, Carlos Magno perfectly captured the hightech messiness of the battle. With the grittiness of Deadpool and his almost-healing wounds and Cable’s body that’s taken a mechanic beating, there was a lot of detail needed to every page and Magno delivered that and more. Along with Magno is Guru-eFX, who handled the colors of Undeadpool #2, and brings so much depth to the comic with his use of dark colors all across the board. Joe Sabino come back to lend his lettering talents to the comic, and provides a perfect flow of dialogue to nail down the high energy story.

Final Thoughts

Undeadpool #2 continues to deliver and make Deadpool’s mark very known in the Age of Revelation!
