The Essentials:
- What is the Skinbreaker?
- Who is Anok?
- What is the Skinbreaker Challenge?
Skinbreaker #3:
After an incredible issue #2, Skinbreaker is back and time has passed since Anok took over as chieftain. But the more things change, the more they stay the same – doubters of his ways and leadership and someone waiting in the wings to challenge him.

Will this tribe survive the inner conflict or will Anok soon be replaced the same way his predecessor was in issue 2.

The Art:
Finch is currently in my top 5 artists working at the moment and to see why, all you have to do is look at this book. So many dual splash pages within issue 3 that this book is truly a work of art, not just a comic.
The world and the people that Finch continue to explore and celebrate is a feast for the eyes. It’s also an emotional rollercoaster, both visually and within the storyline.
Only an artist like Finch could rise to the occasion here and make the art match the powerful story.

The Writing:
What an issue. We knew from the first two issues that Anok’s relationship with his son would be unique in that he wasn’t a warrior, but someone who would soon rely on his wits and intelligence to help sustain the tribe.
The scenes between Anok and his son are heartbreaking yet inspiring in how he lifts his boy up and supports him no matter how big and strong he is. It’s truly a special bond and Anok is really an incredible figure.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
Skinbreaker is not just a fantastical book about a tribe set in a different world, but a story, a lesson about time passing you by and doing what is right for the greater good. As a father and someone getting older by the day, this book hits me like a ton of bricks. It’s beautiful, emotional and a lesson for us all.
