The Story:

Gabriel brings together three heroes who have all had similar paths and interweaves their stories. He is creating a classic mystery story that is setting itself up to potentially be a classic. We get a bit of action, but what sets this story apart, and what Gabriel does well, is that he delves into the mystery and the detective work. Even more so, Gabriel sets Batman up to be the antagonist of this story and has him set up across from Green Arrow and Question at the start. It takes a couple of bold leaps that land on their feet and bring an immense amount of intrigue and life into this first issue.

The Art and Letters:

Gabriel and Romulo bring a gritty and rustic style of art to this new run that works within the world they are building. The suits are all familiar, but the detail in the background and settings makes us feel layered and textured. They do an incredible job bringing each area we go to life through the art and the lettering, mixing in eccentric splash pages and panels. Simon works in his lettering as this issue is more narrative-driven than it is action, and his ability to weave in the intensity and bring to life the mystery being built works incredibly well.

Final Thoughts:

Batman/Green Arrow/The Question Arcadia #1 brings to life a new story shrouded in mystery and delivers on the detective noir mixed with adventure. Gabriel, Romulo, and Simon bring these three characters together, weaving together their separate lives and delivering us into this world.
