Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Director: Emma Tammi
Starring: Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich
Preview: Serving as the sequal to 2023’s, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s,’ the second film in the series returns with frightful consequences. The story focuses on Abby (Rubio) attempting to reconnect with Freddy after the events of the first film. The real draw here, of course, is the reuniting of Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich on screen for the first time since 1996’s, ‘Scream.’ The film will be…to die for.

Hamnet
Director: Chloé Zhao
Starring: Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal
Preview: This is my must see movie of December. There has been really good buzz out of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) about the film and word of mouth has been really positive. Centering around the birth and death of William (Mescal) and Agnes (Buckley) Shakespeares son, Hamnet, the film tells a story of loss, love, and the creation of a masterpiece. This is a day one film for me. Everyone I’ve talked to has had rave reviews. This stands to be one of the most heartbreaking films of the year, and an absolute must see.
Ella McCay
Director: James L. Brooks
Starring: Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson, Kumail Nanjani, Ayo Edebiri, Julie Kavner, Jamie Lee Curtis
Preview: This has sleeper hit all over it. Directed by the great James L Brooks, ‘Ella McCay’ has a ton of talent in the cast. I’ve had my eye on this film since I saw “Gracie Films” go across the screen in a theater. The film tells the story of Ella McCay (Mackey), who has just become governor of the state where she was raised. Politics may be complicated, but family is The Water Temple (shout out to my Zelda fans) as McCay deals with her relationship with her father, husban, and brother.

Avatar: Fire and Ash
Director: James Cameron
Starring: Sam Worthington, Kate Winslett, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Oona Chaplin
Preview: ‘The Avatar’ films have turned into their own little events, much akin to the Marvel films. People turn out for them. ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ will be no difference. The Sully family deals with the aftermath of Neteyem’s death while also coming into contact with a new and aggressive Na’vi tribe known as the Ash People. It goes without saying that you’re going to want to watch ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ on the biggest screen possible.
The Housemaid
Director: Paul Feig
Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Sydney Sweeney, Brandon Sklenar
Preview: ‘The Housemaid’ is a thriller starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. Young and looking for a fresh start, Millie (Sweeney) becomes a live-in maid for Nina (Seyfried) and her husband, Andrew (Skelnar), an afluent couple, elite couple. This is something that I am arguably the least excited for. After the bomb that was Christy, Sweeney is defintely in need of a hit.
The SpongeBob Movie: The Search For SquarePants
Director: Derek Drymon
Starring: Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Clancy Brown, Roger Bumpass, Mr Lawrence, Carloyn Lawrence, Mark Hamill
Preview: Let’s face it. The SpongeBob films are what they are: silly fun. My son is looking forward to it, ergo I’m looking forward to it. If it gets him into film, I’m here for it. This time around SpongeBob (Kenny) goes on an adventure wtih the pirate, The Frying Dutchman (Hamill), with Patrick (Faberbakke) to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs (Brown). Hilarity ensues. This is a first weekend viewing in our house.

Anaconda
Director: Tom Gormican
Starring: Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton
Preview: If you’re going to reboot the movie ‘Anaconda,’ then this is how you do it. There is literally no other way to remake that absurd movie than to make an absurd comedy about rebooting the absurd movie. It’s genius if you think about it. Griff (Rudd) and Doug (Black) set out to remake the 1997 action classic starring Jennifer Lopez, ‘Anaconda.’ When things don’t go anywhere near as planned, the pair and their team find themselves in real danger. This film has grown on me. I’m pretty excited for where this is going. At the absolute worst we get a Paul Rudd/Jack Black team-up and that in and of itself is worth price of admission.
Marty Supreme
Director: Josh Safdie
Starring: Timothée Chalamet, Gwenyth Paltrow
Preview: The Safdie, be it Josh or Benny, have made some of my favorite movies over the last few years. If you haven’t seen ‘Uncut Gems,’ do it…now. Josh Safdie goes solo on ‘Marty Supreme,’ teaming up with Timothée Chalamat to tell the story of Marty Mauser (Chalamet) a young man pursuing his dream of becoming a table tennis champion. ‘Marty Supreme’ has all of the makings of Holiday Break Out hit.
Song Sung Blue
Director: Craig Brewer
Starring: Kate Hudson, Hugh Jackman
Preview: ‘Song Sung Blue’ came onto my radar late, but it’s definitely caught my attention. Following two down on their luck performers who start a Neil Diamond cover band. Mike (Jackman) and Claire (Hudson) start to realize that it’s never too late to find love. As a duo, Jackman and Hudson look to put on stupendous performances. ‘Song Sung Blue’ could be a potential sleeper hit this holiday season.
