The Story
Pamela Isley has gone to the ends of the earth to stop the planet from dying at the hands of humanity. Now, she is on a journey to find the one being that may be able to help, the Tree of Knowledge. Now that she’s in the presence of the Tree of Knowledge, who’s name is actually Tuuru, she’s able to ask the questions she’s been dying to ask.

She asks why does the green, meaning nature, retreat from the world rather than stay and fight. Tuuru tells Pamela that she stands alone because the green does not trust humanity with good reason. According to Tuuru, humanity is all about self-preservation, which means they’ll destroy whatever they need to save themselves. Offering a fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, Tuuru tells Pamela to take a bite and he will show her his reasoning. She takes a bite and Tuuru takes her back in time from the very beginning, to when nature and humanity first divided.
The Writing
Poison Ivy 2025 Annual #1 is written by G. Willow Wilson, who writes with compassion and empathy. You can see it right from the start when she sets the tone of Pamela, who’s desperate for answers from Tuuru. Throughout the comic, you see the passion from Pamela and the Sorceress for the green. You also see their fire as the green is threatened by humanity, which burned brightly.
Wilson created a comic that perfectly shows the beautiful connection Pamela and the Sorceress has for the green, and how far they’d go to save it from the hands of those who strive on self-preservation.
The Art
Mark Buckingham accompanied by Lee Loughridge and Tom Napolitano brings artwork that makes you feel every bit of emotion from the story. Buckingham, the artist of the comic, has every panel very well detailed, giving you a clear picture of the story. Loughridge, who handles the colors, uses more earthy tones throughout the comic that perfectly captures the plot of the story. Napolitano is in charge of lettering, and provides a nice flow of dialogue that highlights the heightened emotions. Throughout the comic, the artist’s talents speak for themselves and together, they bring a stunning comic.
Final Thoughts
Poison Ivy 2025 Annual #1 is beautifully written and wonderfully illustrated all the way through. This is a comic that you definitely want to have on your pull list.
