*Spoilers Ahead*

The Story:

Jeremy is taking us back in time, before the chaos of the massive KO event, which has kicked off. We see Mera getting one shot to return to Arthur while the oceans wail out in agony. I love a good flashback, and this issue builds up more of the picture as to the chaos Darkseid is creating. Parademons are attacking a cruise ship, which sets this issue in motion, and we are drawing nearer to Arthur finding himself about to fight for his life. Jeremy does a great job at giving us more adventure and more plot moving forward in Arthur’s own story with finding Mera, as we are also intertwining the overarching events.

The Art and Letters:

Rex and Dave are still here, crafting beauty in the variations of color that we see in the ocean and the setting as we travel to various regions of the planet. Dave’s lettering adds depth (no pun intended) to the seriousness and confusion of what is unfolding before them. Nimit has taken over art duties, and they have added their own flair to the panels and splash pages. Arthur is moving effortlessly through the ocean, and each Parademon has its own scars and markings, setting them apart with these types of details.

Final thoughts:

Aquaman #11 sets up Arthur’s journey into the big KO tournament, showing that the Earth is buzzing long before he enters the fray. The artwork showcases the beauty of the ocean as they effortlessly build fight sequences, taking down each of Darkseid’s minions.

Overall Grade: 9/10
