The Story:
With Kang in control of the Grail and The Avengers overwhelmed by zombie versions of super heroes from throughout the multiverse, things look bad for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, help is on the way…
The Writing:
Jed MacKay never ceases to amaze me. After taking a long break from this series, I was concerned that I may be confused jumping in towards the end of this story. However, thanks to some well placed exposition, I was able to catch right up and follow along without an issue. The character work and world building that MacKay puts into his stories are always wonderful. Also, the pacing of this book was perfect, with the story moving along a rapid pace that matched the dire circumstances the team found themselves in. The final reveal with the true nature of The Impossible City also left me wanting to see how this plays out in the next issue.

The Art:
The art team in this issue elevated the story to new heights. Frenetic action and gnarly zombies made this a real feast for the eyes. The standout amid the action for me was a quiet moment of realization among the X-Men that The Avengers deal with the impossible every day. Another stand out was the interaction between Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel in the climax of the issue. The line work and colors melded together to showcase the raw power of two of the most formidable women in the Marvel Universe!
Overall Grade: 10/10
A great Avengers story that showcases just how much this team deals with. Fast paced action, a classic villain, a universal threat, and zombies? What more could you ask for?
