*With how much excitement there is for this comic, Nerd Initiative’s Kat and Megan are joining forces once again to cover Echo: Seeker of Truth #1!*

The Story
Maya Lopez, otherwise known as the incredible Echo, has been through so many heavens and hells in her life. She lost her parents, her father died by Kingpin’s hand, she’s overcome challenges such as her deafness, and now she’s taken life in her own hands and helps those in need. Now the person that needs help is her cousin, Celine. Maya’s cousin has gone missing and something just doesn’t seem right. There’s the worry about Celine falling into her old habits and ruining her sobriety, but when Maya finds Celine’s beloved journal left behind, she knows there’s something wrong.
Echo: Seeker of Truth #1 has not one, but two stories! The first one showcases the love Maya has for her cousin, even going as far as joining a cult to find Celine. Maya will stop at nothing until she ensures her cousin’s safety, which includes fantastic fight scenes, and an inner dialogue that gives you a perfect look at Maya’s character.
In the second story, Maya is called back to her home on the reservation to help when an ex-boyfriend, River, is in trouble. This is another example of how hard Maya is willing to fight for those close to her. Not knowing how to help River, Maya finds herself in what looks like an entirely different world. You can continue the rest of that story on Marvel Unlimited by checking out Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #64-#69.
The Writing
Kat – These 2 stories prove that Echo is a character in the Marvel Comics Universe that needs her own mainline story. The writing in both is phenomenal, and they really show where Maya is at right now.
Megan – The writers of both stories went out of their way to prove what a powerhouse of character Maya Lopez is. After reading Echo: Seeker of Truth #1. I would LOVE for Echo to get her own comic run, especially if it involves the same writers. The comic itself is such a delight to read, as you go with Maya to find her cousin or help someone close to her. You get an excellent feel of who she is as a character with her inner dialogue. You also get a great look at how powerful she is, from her fighting to her instincts, there’s a reason I referred to her as a powerhouse.
The Art
Kat – The art across both stories is incredible. I love that each story has it’s own unique art style, and that helps to make each one stand out.
Megan – Both stories have completely different art styles and both were beautiful and perfect for the story. The main story’s artwork is vibrant with an excellent amount of details in every panel. The second story’s is much more gritty, which perfectly fit what was going on. Each story came with its own charm, thanks to the fabulous artists on the creative team.
Final Thoughts
Kat 10/10– This is a comic that everyone needs to read. Maya getting a really special one-shot is amazing. Hopefully, we will see more of her in the future. More from Kat here!
Megan 10/10- Echo: The Seeker of Truth #1 is the perfect example of how deserving Maya Lopez is of her own comic book run. Any Echo fan should absolutely have this comic on their pull list. More from Megan here!
