The Stories

In the epic special Superman Red & Blue 2025 Special #1, we see so many instances of what makes Superman the hero he is to so many. Brought to you by the amazingly talented writers Paul Dini, Michael Walsh, Dan Abnett, and Rainbow Rowell, we see Superman in four different stories that show him at his best. Whether it be Superman saving his cousin, Kara, or Superman rushing to help Lois make the front cover with breaking news at the very last minute, he shows the big and small ways he’s a hero. Each writer has their own signature style in the writing and creates something beautiful to represent the world’s greatest hero.

Paul Dini’s story “Priceless” shows just how far Superman is willing to go for family when he flies out of this world to help Kara and Krypto. They’ve found themselves locked in a holding cell on the strictest planet in the galaxy awaiting Superman to bail them out and get them home safe.

In Michael Walsh’s “All the Time in the World”, we get to see what all goes into a day being Superman and just how much work it takes. To say the hero is always on the go would be an understatement. However, even with the business of his life, he still tries to show attention to those that are the most important to him.

In Dan Abnett’s “Out of the Ordinary”, Superman saves a very small town from what looks to be giant robot aliens, but his job isn’t done once they’re stopped. Superman stays to give the smalltown reporter an interview and gives the inside scoop on all things Superman.

In Rainbow Rowell’s “Red-Letter Days”, the writer puts us into the future on Lois and Clark’s anniversary, but of course every day is a day of heroing in the life of Superman. What I loved about Rowell’s is that it not only highlights Superman, but Lois as well, and their relationship as a couple who understands what it takes to be a hero. All of the writers in this comic really went all out to celebrate the hero we all know and love and it shows very well in their stories!

The Art

As the title says, it’s all about red and blue throughout the comic! Each story is drenched in reds and blues, but done with a different style depending on the artist. Each story is absolutely stunning and takes a different tone thanks to the artists. My personal favorite has to be “All the Time in the World” by Michael Walsh, who also handles the art of the comic as well as the writing. Using blue colors to create the details in the shadows, and the reds to makes Superman pop off the page, the artwork is undoubtedly named correctly, a work of art.

Final Thoughts

Superman Red & Blue 2025 Special #1 was created with Superman fans in mind. All of the writers and artists put their best work forward and created something gorgeous and moving.
