At New York Comic Con 2025, Nerd Initiative got the chance to check out the new Dungeons & Dragons set, Stranger Things Welcome to the Hellfire Club!
Senior Game Designer, Makenzie De Armas, ran two of our team members through the first module of the new set. Here’s what we we learned about this new collaboration.

Game Play:
Jumping right into the game is quick and easy with the pre-made character sheets based off of the characters from the show. Of course, you can create your own character but if you want to dive right in, they are a solid option. The maps, monster tokens, and character minis also go a long way to help a group dive into a game quickly.
During this test play, we played through the first adventure. “The Vanishing Gnome” sees Flizzlebin, the Vanishing Gnome, test the players in a dangerous game of hide and seek though various dungeons. While we only had an hour to play through this adventure, we were able to get a look at a few of the monsters that are themed after monsters in the show and test our selves against them. The setting, Greyhawkins, is an excellent fantasy representation of Hawkins, IN and it really felt like we were playing in a game that Eddie Munson would have dreamt up. On top of drumming up feelings about Stranger Things, the aesthetic makes the player feel like they are playing an older version of the game, even though this set uses the 2024 5E rules.

The Look:
The overall vibe of this set calls to memory the glorious days of 1980’s marketing. The color palette and “vintage” box art help to add to the immersion that this is Eddie’s game. The handouts, including NPC notes and a great photo of the Hellfire Club, were a wonderful addition. The double sided maps were detailed and the monster tokens, while black and white, were excellent.
Final Thoughts:
This set is definitely worth checking out, while it is not one that could be integrated into a longer campaign, the setting and immersion are the selling point. This is an automatic purchase for any fan of Dungeons & Dragons or Stranger Things. I also believe that this would be a great jumping on point for fans of the show that have never taken the dive into TTRPG’s.
