Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 17th issue of The Ultimates from Marvel Comics!

The events of Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5 directly influence this one, so I strongly recommend reading that issue BEFORE you read this one!
Our heroes have been preparing for the Maker’s return, which is approaching VERY soon! Nobody has been preparing harder than Doctor Doom! So just what does he have planned? Let’s jump into it!
The Ultimates #17 by Deniz Camp (Writer), Phil Noto (Guest Artist) & VC’s Travis Lanham (Letterer) is a fantastic change of pace, and also an introspective look at Doctor Doom.
The Story
Deniz Camp continues to write one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. The story in this issue is a continuation of what we saw happen in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5, and it is a PHENOMENAL story.
We get to see a side of Doctor Doom aka Reed Richards we haven’t seen before. We get a brief glimpse at his beginnings and his early interactions with The Maker. It’s a tragic story that is equally heartbreaking. It’s hard to get to the end of the issue and not feel bad for Doom.
However there is hope, and in that hope could be a chance for survival. They just have to get a fantastic outcome. It should be a fun read, and I know I can’t wait.

The Artwork
Phil Noto is the guest artist for this issue, and if you’ve read my previous reviews of his work then you know I’m a big fan. Phil is one of the best artists out there today, across every company. In my opinion, he was the perfect choice for the artwork this issue. His art style is perfectly suited for the story and really helps elevate the tender moments.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
FINAL POINT: Deniz Camp continues his incredible run with a story that’s one of the most heartfelt ones on shelves this week. Together with incredible art from Phil Noto, this issue is one of the best there is!
