Published:

New York is a ghost town full of the sounds of the undead who now inhabit the city. Few heroes remain, and those who is left stand tall against the task of finding a cure and saving the world.

Creative Team: Ethan S. Parker (WRITER), Griffin Sheridan (WRITER), Jan Bazaldua (ART), Eric Arciniega (COLORS), Travis Lanham (LETTERs), Greg Land (COVER), Rachelle Rosenberg (COVER)

The Story:

Ethan and Griffin continue to showcase the horrors of superpowered beings turned into flesh-eating zombies. They make quick work of the X-Men, leaving much to the imagination as Jean is the sole survivor before allowing us to feel a glimmer of hope again.

There is still more hope as they showcase Captain America, Iron Man, Daredevil, and even Ultron together as Earth will not go quietly. Just as hope is found they remind us of the world we are in and one by one even my beloved Daredevil falls.

The duo has left an air of mystery as we do not know Reed’s final plan either, as the dead fight a war with the remaining living. The issue ends in a shocking cliff-hanger, and not knowing if a certain character is alive or not doing just enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.

The Art and Letters:

Jan and Eric detail the decaying flesh in such a detailed manner, it’s almost as if the smell oozes from the pages inside this issue. Jean, unfortunately, is met with Scott, who is missing half a face, before being blasted away by her power, and the way they capture this is almost like leaving the TV on in a dark room. This issue continues to be bloody as they, along with Travis, do an excellent job capturing the vile spirit of the zombies in this universe.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

Marvel Zombies: Red Band #2 pits our favorite heroes against our favorite undead, blurring the lines of enemies and friends. The issue paints a bleak outlook with an epic surprise ending making me need issue 3 ASAP!
