Another year of the nerdy community coming together, at New York Comic Con. I was very excited to join the Nerd Initiative team, to attend panels about new shows and comics. On Saturday, it was very crowded. Lots of things were going on during the morning and the afternoon.
- IT: Welcome To Derry
Stephen King’s books are classics, and this T.V. Show is the prequel to the series. Set in 1962, many of the children and adults in Derry are being haunted by Pennywise. Bill Skarsgard is confirmed to come back for the television show. The director, Andy Muschietti, mentioned that this show will be told backwards. Also, there is a reason why for many of the clips, the audience does not see Pennywise. All of the cast and crew collectively, said that they were excited to come to this project, and develop their own individual characters. IT: Welcome to Derry premieres on October 23rd on HBO Max.

- BatFam Television Show
When the panel first began, the moderator said that we would screen the first episode of the show. Batfam is about the “Bat family” including a very young Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne, and Alfred. Bruce has many friends, and also a new family member. There is a lot of banter throughout this show. Lots of lines that made me chuckle, and I really enjoy this interpretation of Batman. The voice actors of Damian (Yonas Kibreab) and Batman (Luke Wilson) were there to talk about the series. Also, one character introduced was Alicia (London Hughes). So much back and forth of laughs and questions that the cast was asked. It really seemed like they spent a lot of time making this show together. BatFam premieres on November 11th, only on Prime Video.

- Marvel Comics: The Next Big Thing
Originally, I was supposed to go to My Hero Academia to see a screening. It was full and I could not attend. I was able to go to a Marvel Comics panel that had a variety of creators who were talking about upcoming comics coming out. Most of it was covering the Ultimate universe, which will be ending in April of 2026. Most of the creators talked about Ultimate Wolverine, Spiderman, Black Panther, and also Iron Man. That was when Joshua Williamson came in and crashed the panel. Joshua was happy to be back at Marvel, and talked about why exactly he wanted to come back to Iron Man. It seems that the Ultimate universe will be wrapped up in a nice bow, and ending in an incredible way.

Another successful year of New York Comic Con. I am very excited for the future of television shows, and comics. I have to give all the shoutout to the Nerd Initiative team, who worked hard Thursday-Sunday, to cover all the news coming out of the convention. Next year will be New York Comic Con’s 20th year, and I’m sure next year will be even better.
