Hit Point Press Launches SHIFT RPG Onto Kickstarter

Published:

Hit Point Press have launched their newest project.

SHIFT is their new all-ages TTRPG, and this is a fun one. It has everything you love about collaborative storytelling, but everything you need to build your own worlds in the game. But this game is also built for:

  • Gamers who want a TTRPG experience without an enormous tome of rules to follow
  • Players who want a TTRPG that’s fun for both hardcore and casual friends
  • Game Masters who want a break from complex game-building
  • Friends who want to build a wild new game world together
  • Families who love building & experiencing stories together

Collaborative World Building

Alongside all of this, you and your party can also collaborate on making worlds together for the game. With that, you can also:

  • Easily adapt your favourite fictional settings, or build your own from scratch
  • Build your setting into a World Spark: a bite-sized setting with just enough detail to get your game off the ground
  • Get started in as quickly as 10 minutes—just start playing and easily build your characters, adventure and world as you play!

New-Age Dice Mechanic

Now, what makes the game work so well is the SHIFT Dice Mechanic. What’s interesting about it is that you can:

  • Use Traits to represent your character’s strengths & weaknesses, equipment and vehicles, monsters, allies… anything!
  • Use a SHIFT Die (from D4 to D12) to track your likelihood of success. The fewer faces the die has, the better your odds!
  • But watch out: rolling the highest number on a SHIFT die means your Trait becomes less reliable!

The good news: D20s don’t exist in SHIFT. Instead, it’s all about the D4, D6, D8, D10, and D12. Hit Point Press also has the game’s Quickstart Rules available for Free on their website. So, you can read the rules and get familiar with the game.

Stretch Goals Galore

There are so many Stretch Goals for the game, and the unlocked ones include:

  • 3 Worlds Sparks:
    • Dorado Station: An action packed sci-fi western setting by Carlos Cisco. Dig up your fortune on the mining planet Ordaz II, while fending off mole monsters and other prospectors.
    • Dragon-Knights of Ylgara: A post-apocalyptic fantasy setting by Joseph Carriker. Play as armored knights and dragons sworn to protect Refuge, the last bastion of the people of Ylgara, against horrible eldritch monsters.
    • Blissville: A 50’s inspired horror setting by Graeme Fotheringham. Get caught up in the B-Movie nightmare of Blissville, where every night the friendly townsfolk turn into monsters. Unravel the mystery of the town and keep yourself from becoming a monster as well.
  • SHIFT Open Gaming License
    • With your help now SHIFT is open for everyone to make amazing games! We can’t wait to see what this fantastic community will create!

The 2 locked Stretch Goals include:

  • 2 Additional World Sparks:
    • Regencia: A romantic setting by Alex Roberts. Explore a peaceful world of romance, intrigue and social gatherings where you try to find love and excitement while fending off the dastardly rumor mill.
    • Second World: An optimistic superhero setting by Gail Simone. Join the ranks of the Champions, hopeful superheroes who defend the city of Port Angel against sinister supervillains.

This Kickstarter is live until November 6th, so back now if you want to be part of the Next Generation of TTRPG Games. You can also check out the videos that Hit Point Press posted for the game to give you a good intro for how the game works:
