The Story:
It really feels as though with each issue Sophie is teaching us real-life lessons that we can use every day. This issue sees Supergirl struggling with her past and the things that continue to haunt her as she has never been able to reconcile them. What I particularly enjoyed is that she comes to terms with the fact these things will always be apart of her and that she learns to continue moving on and that they give her strength. It’s something I feel as though a lot of us can use and learn that our past is there to help make us stronger as well.
Centering this issue around Halloween was the perfect fit to dive into her mind while also bringing in a new, fun addition to the team with Luna. Sophie continues to really elevate this run with each issue!
The Art and Letters:
Sophie and Rosi lean into the Halloween spirit and the spookier side of this issue as they craft up a slew of creepy creatures that are haunting Kara. There is a lot of excellent line work through the panels, and makes this feel like we are inside the nightmare as well. Becca draws out the horror aspect through her lettering, which separates real life from the nightmares.
Tamra is bringing out the greens, oranges, purples, and more, all working to blend the bright blue and reds that clash but also complement each other. This is one of my favorite issues in the run, as far as colors go making this one a fun and spooky read!
Final Thoughts:
Supergirl #6 is a look inside Kara’s mind, taking us on a journey that teaches us that our past helps to shape who we are rather than define us. It’s an excellent spooky time read for this season that continues to elevate this already fun run!
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
