The Story:

This issue sees the story truly come to life as it packs an explosive punch. Andy and Rob have brought our various heroes together, and it gets exciting as they each take a crack at Zod. Seeing each member with something different to bring to the table is a clever way to take this battle page to page, allowing for each hero to have their moment to shine. It’s got some fun quips from Superman who even offers to buy Zod a drink to which I found it to be a fun nod to the time we are working in.

Seeing Flash, Cyborg, and Constantine work together was something I didn’t know I needed, as each of their powers was showcased so well. This origin story of the Justice League is setting itself up to leave a lasting impression.

The Art:

Matt and Leandro showcase some extraordinary talent with detail and coloring. The action gets intense, to which they rise to the challenge, making every punch and hit feel heavy as it destroys the earth around the characters. As each hero gets their moment to shine, they ensure to show off their skill sets at the same time, which leads to excellent splash pages and panels full of power. I enjoyed how Flash was done the most, as his burst of speed was captured in bright bursts of lightning. There are a lot of well-crafted details in the line work and facial expressions, capturing the heat of battle.

Final Thoughts:

This alternative take on the beloved Justice League brings us an intense first test for our heroes as they battle Zod. It is full of intense action spanning panels and pages, as well as humorous quips, taking us to a jaw-dropping cliff-hanger. Be sure to pull this book!
