Catch up with Batman #1 here!

The Story

In the last issue, we ended with Robin asking if they hand any friends on the police force, which could mean so many different things.

In Batman #2, instead of picking up right where we left off, we’re treated to a flashback of Bruce taking Tim out to drive for his first time. Working up his courage to take control behind the wheel, Bruce is providing comfort and knowledge to his protege.

Cutting back to present day, we see exactly what led to Robin’s debacle involving the police. There are a few surprising moments that you read with bated breath, that really had no right being as entertaining as it was.

What really brought Batman #2 to home plate were the little moment between Bruce and Tim that showed how paternal Bruce can be. There was a softness amid the chaos that’s integral to the relationship of Batman and Robin.

With high energy, thrilling action, and a story that keeps your heart racing, Matt Fraction does it again with his writing talents. Proving that the first issue was so much more than just a good start, Fraction shows that this is a continuous thrill ride that’s all gas and no breaks.

The Art

Jorge Jiménez continues to knock it out of the park on anything he gets his hands on, including Batman #2. Perfectly capturing the excitement of the action-filled panels, Jiménez keeps you on your toes throughout the comic. Along with Jiménez is Tomeo Morey, the colorist of the comic. Morey provides so much depth to each of Jiménez’s pictures, making each page hit you just right. Together with Clayton Cowles, the artists of Batman #2 go out of their way to give us something hard-hitting, compelling, and dripping with excitement.

Overall Grade -10/10

I can’t say enough good things about the second installment of Batman! The creative team brought so much quality to the story and the art, and I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next issue.
